WGA Events

“So when will there be a WGA event near me?”  Let’s face it, Wisconsin is a big state and it takes a good part of the day to drive from the southern border (where I live) to the northern border.  Maybe you’ve had the good fortune to have a WGA event practically in your backyard, maybe you’ve had to make a long drive.  I, personally, have experienced both.  My first WGA event was the chili cook-off in 2010 held in Dousman, just 20 minutes away from my house, and this spring’s campout was a six hour drive from home.  So is it worth it to attend a WGA event?  Of course that is something that you all will have to decide for yourselves as everyone has different work and school schedules, financial situation, children’s activities, etc.    One thing I can tell you is that the WGA is made up of all of you, our members.  And many of us just love to get together and chat about all of our geocaching adventures and experiences here in our great state.  We’d love to see you attend your WGA events!

Maybe you didn’t know this, but the WGA makes an effort to make sure that we are able to reach out to our members in all parts of the state.  Take a look at the WGA logo, you’ll find that Wisconsin is divided up into 4 regions.  When your board of directors is planning out the WGA events we take a look at those regions and we rotate the locations based on those regions, especially in regards to our two biggest events; the Spring Camp Out and the Fall Picnic.  This spring’s camp out was held in Interstate State Park in the northwest region.  This fall’s picnic will be held in Governor Thompson State Park in the northeast region.  We also strive to hold our events in a WI State Park, Forest or Rec Area.

I’d also like to encourage you to get involved if you can.  Again, everyone’s situation is different, but if you see that the next WGA event is being held in your corner of the state please consider volunteering your time and talents to helping us pull this off.  As a local you can share your knowledge of the area with those of us who may be driving 6 hours to get there and may be new to your favorite nearby spots.  We’ve had many WGA members step up to help out at events and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them, we couldn’t run without our members!

Check out the WGA Events page to learn more about the WGA events (and others) around Wisconsin.
