Lonely Cache Game Event Comment Printer Friendly Send to a Friend
Upcoming Events

WGA LCG Event| Frozen Mosquito

The Lonely Cache Game event is less than a week away, have you logged your “will attend” yet? We are actually looking at positive numbers for this weekend’s temperature so this is the perfect time to get out and do some geocaching!

The 2013 Lonely Cache Game Event will be held February 1st from 1-3 PM at Mosquito Hill Nature Center, just east of New London. We will be using the new Great Room for a bit of bragging, snacking, and awards. The Center also has snowshoes for rent and has 5 geocaches and 1 Earthcache on the grounds. A few more hides may show up before the event so stay posted.

For anyone that has played the LCG, this is always a great way to reminisce on all the great adventures that happened in 2013. If you are curious about the game, come on out and get informed! Many of Wisconsin's best caches are "Lonely"! Join us for socializing and geo-talk about everything that makes WI geocaching special. We'll talk about Cache Rescues and the Lonely Cache Game, which has the sole purpose of encouraging people to visit those WI geocaches that are not often visited and to keep our caches in tip top shape for all visitors.

Never played the LCG? Not important. Just stop by and enjoy the Meet and Greet.

2013 WGA Fall Geo-Picnic - Gov Thompson State Park Comment Printer Friendly Send to a Friend
Upcoming Events
labrat_wr writes:

September 21, 2013 is the date for the WGA 2013 Fall Geo-Picnic GC4GK5F

Come join the WGA Board of Directors and lots of other WGA members and non-members as they come together to celebrate another great year of caching in Wisconsin.

The 2,800-acre Governor Thompson State Park is 15 miles northwest of Crivitz in Marinette County, part of Wisconsin's Northeast Sands ecological landscape. The site protects 5,300 feet of shoreline on Wood and Huber Lakes and protects Handsaw Creek and Woods Lake Outlet. The main parcel creating the park is the former 1,987-acre Paust Woods Lake Resort and about 200 acres of wild-looking lakefront bought from Wisconsin Public Service Corporation on Caldron Falls Reservoir.

The park includes about 6.5 miles of undeveloped shoreline on Caldron Falls Flowage, backed up by forested uplands, and frontage on Woods Lake and Huber Lake, as well as several streams. Visitors will find an atmosphere that is perfect for solitude, reflection, recreation, and education.

The park was established in 2000, the Wisconsin State Park System's centennial year, and is open as a day-use park. While the park is developing more recreational areas there are many things for visitors to do such as boating, hiking, berry picking, fishing, swimming, picnicking, relaxing, and deer gun hunting.

The park has developed a picnic area and enclosed shelter on Woods Lake. The park has also rebuilt Boat Landing 13 on Caldron Falls Flowage with additional ramps, parking, and restrooms.

2013 WGA Campout Comment Printer Friendly Send to a Friend
Upcoming Events

Spring is just around the corner, so it’s time to start planning for the WGA Spring Campout Event. This year, the WGA has joined forces with the Minnesota Geocaching Association in hosting an interstate campout!
Camping Optional
You don’t need to camp to attend. Book a motel or just stop in for a day. The WGA has reserved both group campsites. You may also reserved your own campsite, but they are going fast.
Location
The campout will be held at Interstate State Park, which is one of the most scenic parks in the entire state. You’ll see fascinating glacial potholes and the steep, narrow gorge called The Dalles of the St. Croix. With nine miles of trails, there is plenty to see.
Dates
Mark your calendar for May 17-19.
Activities
There will be plenty to keep you busy and entertained for the entire weekend. We’re hosting a campfire social at the group campsite on Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday you will be able to show off your rustic culinary skills in the Dutch Oven Cook-off, join the Interstate Tug-O-War, or if you enjoy fishing, join the fishing derby. The Kids' Adventure Cache will be available all day. Details for all activites will be available at the Interstate Shelter.
There will be a presentation by DNR Natural Resource Educator Julie Fox on Saturday Morning. Julie will be explaining the unique geology of the area as well as the history of Interstate Park.
Join us on Saturday night for night caches! They blink. They twinkle. They glow in the dark. There is no telling what you may find. Anyone is invited to place a night cache, so get going!
Several new caches will be placed in and around the park in addition to the dozens already within three miles. If you are really ambitious, there are over 20 caches along the Gandy Dancer trail starting less than a mile from the park entrance.
Other activities at Interstate Park include hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, rock climbing and fishing. You can also visit the Ice Age Interpretive Center or pick up a souvenir at the gift shop.
Merchandise
You’ll have the opportunity to purchase limited edition WGA/MnGCA Interstate Campout apparel as well as WGA Geocoins, pathtags and Groundspeak merchandise at the Interstate Shelter on Saturday.

Post your Will Attend on the Geocaching.com web page. If you have any questions or comments or are just looking for more info, go to the Interstate Campout forum.

The WGA Picnic to Picnic Travel Bug Race More about Printer Friendly Send to a Friend
Upcoming Events
Anonymous writes:

On your marks!!!

The WGA Picnic committee will be hosting the very first WGA Travelbug Race. This race will start at the 2012 WGA Fall Picnic at Pike Lake on September 22, and continue for a full year; ending at the 2013 picnic event. The travel bug that travels the most miles during that time will be the winner.

Get Set!!!

The details are still being worked out, but the basic rules are as follows:
1. All travel bugs must be present at the 2012 WGA Picnic event. Travel Bug tags will be available for sale at the event if needed.
2. The first stop for your traveler should be the picnic event. You can either take it with you to place in a cache of your choice, or leave it with the event staff to be dropped in one of several undisclosed caches around the state.
3. Only the FIRST move by a single cacher will be counted for miles. (No "dipping" for miles.)
4. The main reason for this race is to have fun. Please don't spoil it by trying to find a way to "beat the system".
5. Bragging in the WGA website forums is allowed and encouraged.

The race will be tracked on tb-run.com. This is not a public race, so check the forums for the link and password. Registration is required, but it's easy and free.

Watch for more details in the Fall Picnic threads in the WGA Forums. (Click Here)
