Spring is just around the corner, so it’s time to start planning for the WGA Spring Campout Event. This year, the WGA has joined forces with the Minnesota Geocaching Association in hosting an interstate campout!
Camping Optional
You don’t need to camp to attend. Book a motel or just stop in for a day. The WGA has reserved both group campsites. You may also reserved your own campsite, but they are going fast.
Location
The campout will be held at Interstate State Park, which is one of the most scenic parks in the entire state. You’ll see fascinating glacial potholes and the steep, narrow gorge called The Dalles of the St. Croix. With nine miles of trails, there is plenty to see.
Dates
Mark your calendar for May 17-19.
Activities
There will be plenty to keep you busy and entertained for the entire weekend. We’re hosting a campfire social at the group campsite on Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday you will be able to show off your rustic culinary skills in the Dutch Oven Cook-off, join the Interstate Tug-O-War, or if you enjoy fishing, join the fishing derby. The Kids' Adventure Cache will be available all day. Details for all activites will be available at the Interstate Shelter.
There will be a presentation by DNR Natural Resource Educator Julie Fox on Saturday Morning. Julie will be explaining the unique geology of the area as well as the history of Interstate Park.
Join us on Saturday night for night caches! They blink. They twinkle. They glow in the dark. There is no telling what you may find. Anyone is invited to place a night cache, so get going!
Several new caches will be placed in and around the park in addition to the dozens already within three miles. If you are really ambitious, there are over 20 caches along the Gandy Dancer trail starting less than a mile from the park entrance.
Other activities at Interstate Park include hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, rock climbing and fishing. You can also visit the Ice Age Interpretive Center or pick up a souvenir at the gift shop.
Merchandise
You’ll have the opportunity to purchase limited edition WGA/MnGCA Interstate Campout apparel as well as WGA Geocoins, pathtags and Groundspeak merchandise at the Interstate Shelter on Saturday.

Anonymous writes: The 2012 WGA Campout is coming up fast! The event will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 1st, 2nd and 3rd at Governor Dodge State Park. This was the location of the very first WGA Campout, and the event will be the 10th anniversary celebration of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association. This is going to be one you don't want to miss.

The WGA BOD and the campout committee have been hard at work for the past few months planning this event. There are a number of activities in the works including a fishing derby, Geo Golf, GPS Inaccuracy game, family and kids' activities, a photo contest, the annual WGA Night Cache contest and much more!
As usual, we have reserved a couple of group campsites, and there is still room for more campers. See the WGA Upcoming Events page for more info on camping. Remember that you do not need to camp to attend this event. Come for the day, or stay all weekend! If you are camping at the group site, don't forget to pay for your camping in the WGA Store.
We will have WGA merchandise for sale including WGA shirts, 2012 WGA Campout shirts, WGA Geocoins and Campout Pathtags. Help support the Wisconsin Geocaching Association with your purchase.
Join us at the campfire after sunset at the group campsite. Don't forget to bring the marshmallows and your best caching or fishing stories! Non-campers are welcome, but must be out of the park by 11PM.
As a special "Thank You" to everyone that has supported the Wisconsin Geocaching Association over the last decade, we are going to be having a pig roast on Saturday. This is a seperate event, and everyone is invited! More details are in the next article, but for less than the price of a quarter pound cheeseburger, you can get a big plate of roasted pork with all the fixin's!
Finish off the weekend at the annual WGA Pancake Breakfast on Sunday Morning. We'll be serving up hot pancakes, sausage and your favorite breakfast beverage from 8 to 10 AM.
We hope to see you all at the 2012 WGA Campout Event at Governor Dodge State Park. Here are the links to the events.
2012 WGA Campout Pancake Breakfast (Not an official event, but you'll want to be there on Sunday morning!)
