Do you 'watch' any puzzles?

I have taken to posting a note to some of my puzzles, then immediately deleting the note. So, if you are watching the cache, you'll get the note.

All right, I'll bite on this one...you knew I would anyway.

I do not like the "trickle" approach to adding progessively more and more information (including bonus notes to the watchers) to a cache page to help you solve it.

My philosophy is that if the information is needed to solve the puzzle, it should be there in the first place. With that said, I'm sure we have added or refined cache info and hints over time when we realize there are problems with the cache/puzzle or its interpretation. However, to design a puzzle that requires a drip, drip, drip of notes over time seems to have no purpose other than to toy with people.

That's just my opinion, perhaps others don't mind it.

Well, M, I agree with you!

I put out puzzles with the idea that someone is going to solve them in a reasonable time period. In the past I had what I thought were hard puzzles, only to see a FTF within hours of publication.

When no one comes up with a solve in a week or so, I feel I should provide a hint. The problem, at that point, is figuring out a hint or two that does not give too much info.

The main reason for this topic is to see who Watches caches. I do not think many cachers do, some maybe not even knowing you can do so.

I watch caches but my wife usually deletes the emails...

But more on topic, I usually watch caches that I have found before and are my favorites for some reason or other. Tough terrains, clever containers, and the like. Mostly because I enjoy reading logs and usually if I found a cache enjoyable others will probably as well.

I also watch caches that I was involved in created (co-owner type situations) but am not the actual owner of the cache.

I also watch some puzzle caches I haven't solved yet just in case some tidbit of info comes through on a recent found log.

Having said that, I keep my watch list around 10 - 15 or so at all times and remove the one's I am no longer interested in following.

Like I said, most of the emails either get deleted or forwarded to my work account. Flip a coin as to which one happens on any given day.

Like cheeto, I tend to watch caches we've found, or hope to find sometime soon and want to keep up on the logs of those who have found it. I have a watch on the Isle Royale EarthCache, because sooner or later, we'll get there. The photos are often worth the watch.

I just put a watch on three new ones around Mosinee, because they look so darn cool. A paddling night cache, for one. They have our name on them, just not sure how soon we'll get there.

As Ronald Regan would have said..."There you go again!"

Well, to answer the ostensible question, we have what appears to be about 100 caches on our watch list, the overwhelming majority of which are caches we have found or have DNFed and are interested in seeing what others have to say.

There is only one puzzle on our watch list that we have not solved/found, and I only put that one on there after you had mentioned to me a while back that you had been tossing out breadcrumbs on it. Rolling Eyes I think it's just easier to wait for the guided tour!

I watch any that I'm trying to focus on.

I have a few on my watch list that I have found or had a DNF on like others have said. My watch list is getting WAY smaller than it used to be. Mostlu just the 6 white Jeep travel bugs I released, and those get no more hits....none.

I usually have about 100 on my watchlist.

I watch my dnf's to try to get more info for the next attempt or to not to even try again.

I watch new caches in the area to see logs from the other group of about a dozen who are usually the first finders.

I watch caches in areas that are near places I would like to place a cache so I know when they are done and archived.

Does that mean you're now giving tours on your own caches?

And even the unfound ones?

I think not wink

"I also watch some puzzle caches I haven't solved yet just in case some tidbit of info comes through on a recent found log."

For a puzzle cache in our area this type of "Search and Destroy" method to trying to solve a puzzle will elicit condemnation from the owner and a public tongue lashing in the forums. Is it worth it to wait for these tidbits of information? Not here.

Sure, why not?

I drive them to the parking area, and then "Good Luck"! Cool
