I just discovered that last fall Team Northwoods hid a huge amount of caches right near our cabin. I'm so excited! I may actually get to cache when I head up there in a month or so.

While looking over Cornell and his upcoming event, I noticed all those great caches and those around the lake look good, too. Great way to spend the day and there are some island caches too! Michael had created quite the cachingutopia up there.

I hope some of us get to stop by his event. He's putting a lot into it.

It should be fine. The area has changed a lot since it was placed by Lil Otter and the dam is not really a dam anymore. The cache isn't all that close to the river. We tried to maintain the original location but with the work that was done with the dam, that spot was not usuble anymore.

Be sure to follow the waypoints included in the write up now. People try to approach it from a different area and then the "authorized personnel only" sign, or words to that effect, turns them back. So we took some waypoints to help folks find the fisherman's trail. It could be icy on those rocks, so use care.

Feeling the 17 miles I hiked yesterday along the IAT.

Sigh. Geocaching and traveling are going to have to become a thing of the past for us, with very rare occasions. Between our kids sucking us dry, our truck and now this homeowners nightmare we have to address, we've burned through the funds that were supposed to hold us for another five years to social security. Gas for traveling all over the place to look for junk just seems like a poor choice, especially as gas prices keep climbing.

You can only give so much. I'd like to think our ship might come in, but it hasn't happened yet, why would it now? I saw a job ad for Jolivettes that read "do you like to bake?' I might see what it entails. Part-time, I can do and I can walk there. We still have the daycare gig, so I can't go full time at anything. I've bagged on the trip to Europe with my mom, a rafting trip and now I've decided the storytelling conference next month can't be justified.

Double sigh. On the plus side, I should have lots of time to look for birds locally. I can try and finish all these half done projects around here. I won't be bored, anyway! And we're not dead, which happens to recent retirees more than a person likes to think.

The spring four years ago was quite nice. That's when we had all sorts of work done on the outside of our house, including a new roof. The weather cooperated.

About this cache of yours, BigJim... Would our large flat canoe do well on the Little Bear, and where would we put in? It's kind of heavy and awkward to maneuver when out of the water. Of course, right now it's still stored in the garage. Rolling Eyes

The Kettle Moraine's must be the lost phone capital of Wisconsin. I found two phones yesterday. First one was just as I started hiking on the trail. Tried calling home but the phone had already been deactivated. Then later in the day I found a Iphone in the campground.

I'm sorry to hear of your financially troubles. Things have been tight for us as well lately. Ugh! I hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the info, I noted all the additional waypoints and thank you! We're going to slowly work on the waterfall challenge now and that was on the way home. We'll stop and see if it will work out.

We're also going to make a stop in Madison to hold my nephew's newborn baby!! I can't wait. Babies are such a nice way to start people.

Not today Laughing Laughing Laughing In spring it would work. By July the water level is usually too low. THe creek has a few bends, but nothing real tight. Put in at GC23TWD

I hear the financial problems! We had to cash out my retirement when I left my job and moved here. Now, it's going to be a rush to get anything put in there once I find a job (if I find a job) along with trying to find a way to save up money for two kids to go to college (very belated start).

Very happy we invested in the Volt! Caching on electricity is nice, and since we're new to the game, there are plenty that are close to us (especially with the Cities so close) that we can run to clusters and still get back without using more than 1/3 gallon of gas for a 45 mile round trip.

Wish there was something we could do to help!

Thanks..it's this business with the flooding that's the final straw..I have no idea what it's going to cost, other than it's not cheap. I finally told my mom I can't afford the 90th birthday cruise. She was not happy to hear that.

I have a ford fiesta that gets great mileage. Trekkin' hates it! We'd thought about doing those owl caches by Johnson Creek today. Three hundred miles round trip at 3.57 a gallon. For what? We have nice places to hike right here...finding a box to open isn't necessary. Luckily we came to this game as outdoor enthusiasts, so we just shift back to doing that closer to home.

It's been a rough few months here. It has to get better. Like I said..we aren't dead (though Trekkin' did suffer permanent vision loss from a geocaching incident). Time to step back from it all, which we were doing, anyway. This just forces the issue.

FTPs are free... but we would advise that you don't acquire them cheaply... Wink

My job here is to set up others for their FTPs. Maybe I should start charging for this service. Rolling Eyes

What you and Trekkin' need to do, Birdin', is fill out your NCAA brackets and be perfect on them all the way through, and then you will win one billion dollars. That should fund a few caching trips...

Just don't forget us little people in the driveling thread. Wink
