NEW IDEA, HCH? Perhaps not. (Can't post this to the best-fit thread, so thought this is the best heap to toss it on.)
Regional Targeting to a very specific market (i.e. Everyone in the WGA region that uses GC.com) http://www.geocaching.com/about/advertising.aspx |

That's a great idea, but that would also mean the WGA would have to spend money. And I don't foresee the WGA doing that on something like that. |

Yes it would. If there is some merit, perhaps someone can dig up and lay out the specifics on costs and benefits, then crunch some beans to guesstimate bang/buck. Perhaps then a baby-step can be tested. The frog might be interested in partnering with WGA equivalents nationally......maybe with just a tiny, less costly ad space ..... just the fingers mumblin' here. |

The LCG event is one of my favorites. Last year, I went through the Geico Gorge and a sewer to get caches before the event. Two years ago, Jar 42 and I found a couple of lonely caches in thigh high snow. The event itself is fun too. Great group.
Big Jim skip the $5 foot long. You can get these at most retailers for $3.49 in the frozen food section. They are really good if you melt cheese over the top for the last few minutes. They are made in Milwaukee. I go to their shop to buy them fresh when I have a guide. A friend of color has told me not to go into the neighborhood alone

I had my first find on 1/7. I learned of the WGA and became a member by 1/10.
I am absolutely not saying that an ad at gc.com isn't a good idea or worth pursuing. I'm just saying that current efforts to expose Wisconsin geocachers to the WGA aren't entirely ineffective.
If an ad can draw even more people, that would be terrific. The more people who get involved, the more opportunities there will be for education. |

Without membership dues.... probably not.
How many "new" ideas can there be? The WGA logo and link is on thousands of Wisconsin geocaches. The WGA COTM banner is added to several dozen caches ever year, and notifications added to hundreds of nominated geocaches. If a Wisconsin geocacher hasn't seen the WGA banner on a cache page description, they aren't reading them.
As mentioned previously, Chris Walker has kept the Facebook page fresh and active. We host three big events and sponsor a half dozen more each year, all of which introduce new cachers to the WGA.
Do a Google search for geocaching. This website is high on the first page. Try searching for WGA. Same results. First page. (That's something you complained about a couple of years ago, and I decided to fix the problem.) Oh, and on a similar note, check out http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/WGA
We're now on the list...
I hope your question results in some great "new" ideas, but please don't make it seem like we're not trying. |

FTP 4 Friday!
I really don't care if it's a BOD or a WGA Member that has a NEW idea, as long as someone shares it with us, so we can discuss it and take action on it! |

Happy Friday!!
Think positive, at least it is not snowing and the sun is shining bright. The fact that the temperature has a "-" in front of it is no big deal. |

Morning!
Just a friendly reminder, this forum is for discussions on craphas and useless drivel, please take all real topics and complaints to another thread.
Otherwise people might start taking their toys and going home.
thanks! |

At the risk of getting my head ripped off, I would suggest trying the old ideas in addition to looking for new ideas. Putting the WGA logo and link on one's own cache pages is the #1 way of spreading the word, IMO. Everyone looks for caches, and while not everyone reads the cache pages (don't get me started on that), the logo might catch people's eyes.
I first knew about the WGA by clicking on the link in a cache page. I lurked for a bit, but didn't officially join until it was necessary for me to participate in the Lonely Cache Game. Three months from fist find to membership.
And some people just aren't joiners. You can share all sorts of information with them in all sorts of ways, but it's not the WGA's business to drag them in kicking and screaming. And while some people may be members, they may not be highly visible, if at all. Not everyone is a thread stealer.
As for the WGA-sponsored events, at the ones we have attended there are so many people we don't know and names we don't recognize.... Cachers come to those even if they know nothing about the WGA. Higher-profile events draw more attendees (West Bend, WGA events, CITOs, flash mobs, and even ones that have been around a while, like blue-frosted cupcakes and weenie roasts). |
