Fun subject! Lots of agreement with many individuals. Mister Greenthumb, I carry a generic Iburprofen in my cache bag instead of Alleve, works great on the knee pain and sometimes in the middle of a cache day it comes in handy. BigJim60, often when you go to a site and look around, it isn't at all what you thought it would be. Sometimes it's worse...
One thing I try to keep in mind is that someone actually placed a container here somewhere. They got in and out alive so maybe if I let it simmer for a while, I'll figure a way to do the same on a future trip. I have been know to come back to a site with a ladder, reaching tools or what ever I think might help me. Sometimes it has worked. If it's a neat spot to start with, I'll definitely revisit. |

Danger? What is that? Okay....yes....you must be smart...however, if I have a buddy with, I'll probably attempt just about anything. I know there has been a time or two, I have backed off and brought Mr. Lacknothing back. I try to exercise caution on tree hides and water hides (islands). Slippery trails - I just go at a very slow pace....[/img] |

Sometimes, at the end of a caching day, I may pass on a cache that I might have attempted earlier in the day, just because I am tired or not as alert.
There is a subtle difference between doing something dangerous, and putting yourself in danger. Do it because you know you have the physical and mental capabilities to minimize the risk, not because you are goaded, shamed or coaxed into it. You may have to put your ego in an ammo box and lock it up to keep yourself from doing something that you shouldn't be doing.

We are on a little caching trip this weekend, the first in over two months. We did enjoy a snowshoeing event the beginning of March, but have otherwise pretty much sat out caching since Birdin' suffered a broken arm...while caching.
That, combined with the utter realization that we aren't getting any younger, has had us taking a bit more cautious approach. We passed on one of several tree climbs today. Right now, I just can't. Trekkin' took a look and decided his legs were too short, and he could maybe get up there, but we just didn't need that smiley enough to risk another broken bone. Call us wimps if you like. We prefer to think of it as playing smart for the long haul. |

Don't feel bad. I'm 46. In decent shape. And I passed on a tree cache on the Yellow Brick Road series because I was not about to risk a fall even though all I had to do was climb up a log leaning against the tree.
I will not attempt anything that puts me at risk even if it seems easy. |
