FWIW, I think the 7 day rule should stay and should be enforced.
I am working on getting access to the geocaching.com live API. When that is finalized, I could then work on incorporating verification that the cache has been logged, check dates, etc. at the time the report is made. |

$.02 from the hippie:
1. The LCG is a way I can give back a little by checking up on some of these caches and in some instances even replacing them.
2. The timeframe to log them is good to have, maybe could even be shortened, to make bookkeeping by the volunteers easier and to motivate me to get my logs written within at least a week
3. It's for fun! As for subtle and not subtle jabs, I don't consider myself or the other 'players' losers just because we don't rack up thousands of points. Some of the best caching adventures I've been on solo or with a group were due to the LCG.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the LCG event, peace! |

I don’t see “whining” in his question, I see an individual who is playing the “game” by the games “listed rules” where “prizes” are listed as being awarded at the “event” and he has an interest in being the top scorer and is playing by the “rules”. Congratulations to him!

Yes....he, as well as others, have an interest in playing by the listed rules, and Rule #10 does not seem to be in play anymore.
Northwoods Tom says:
"The purpose behind the game is to get people to visit caches that rarely get visited and reward those individuals."
I have enjoyed searching out the Lonely caches and exploring out of the way places, and no, I guess I don't need the points, but since there is a game involved then why not play it?
Northwoods Tom says:
"or those further south a chance to score some really big points. Weaken or ignore the rules and many caches become even lonelier."
I was enjoying the competition up until Rule #10 was thrown out of the game.
Northwoods Tom says:
"The rules exist for a reason; I assume if they need changing they will be. As far as the extra work monitoring, those that “play the game by the rules” are always available to let you know when someone isn’t playing by the rules if they choose. I would think it’s real easy to delete points when someone points it out."
You would think
labrat_wr says:
" With the cut over to the new website, the game admins no longer have the ability to edit the points for the submission if approved as mentioned in Rule #10."
In this day of technology, I wonder why not.
labrat_wr says:
" The early years of the game seemed to hold a slightly different value in that the monthly point leader/s received a geocoin or other prize often donated by another player. In those days, Rule #10 helped in keeping those "sandbaggers" from waiting until the last moment to spring hundreds of points on the other players. That practice has declined with the withdrawl of offering monthly prizes."
I was under the impression that the monthly prizes were back in effect. Maybe I'm wrong. Even without the monthly prizes, points do add up for the year. Yes, the top ten cachers get prizes at the LCG event, but doesn't everybody playing want to try and be #1? Have bragging rights? Feel like you accomplished something and you tried your best because all rules were followed? That can't happen if the reviewers keep ignoring Rule #10.
Disclaimer: This cacher realizes that there are more important things in this world than this LCG, and by no means is playing this game her life. |

WOW! That's a lot of references from a 5 month period!
Labrat's quotes were from December 29th. The BODs, LCG Event attendees, and LCG players have all communicated since that time and monthly prizes were reinstated. It will be the responsibility of the prize donor to make sure the monthly winner receives their prize.
If you really want proof of when a cache was logged, you would need to PERSONALLY check the physical log for accuracy.
Any volunteers? |

I was just wondering. OK, apparently it's not an easy fix... |

Rats... had several paragraphs here to post but my connection dropped and I lost it.
Let me paraphrase - log your stuff in a timely manner or they may be deleted. tired of it.
If there is a legitimate reason for late logging, include it in the submission and these will be taken on a case by case basis. |

Heavy logging of reports at the months end may delay the results for the month. |
Perfect, Love it!!
Thanks to Hitman4 for sparking this topic and bringing it back to life again .
This should make it easier for admin to administrate now too.
Thanks!!! |

Just to clarify in case anyone is curious. The old rule stated:
| Quote: |
| 10. Lonely cache reports must be submitted within 7 days of the find/attempt/adoption to eligible to score points. Reports submitted after this time period may be approved but will count for no (0) points. |
