Before yesterday we had found two archived caches, “Maverick's Cache” http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC1v7nc&Submit6=Go and “Millers Bay” http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCr7kk&Submit6=Go but those were not archived very long.

Yesterday I found a cache that was not found for 2 1/2 years, “Childhood Memories” http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=c13a3e54-1c1a-431d-a71b-0c2e9dba9e0c . But that’s not the strangest part. I screwed something up on a puzzle and while looking for it. I was in the wrong spot and I found the final for the multi “Our Second attempt making a multi" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d3bf07c7-12e1-4871-a881-486937040873 . That’s when I figured out I made a mistake on the puzzle. So then I went off to find WP1 of the multi. While searching for that I found “Childhood Memories”. Confused Weird. I found one cache while looking for a different one and found a different one while looking for the other one. Confused

Are there any other interesting stories about archived finds out there?

Finding archived caches is not that uncommon. I have found by chance several finals, stages of multis and letterboxes. In all I think I have found about 10 archived listings / letterboxes by chance. If you get out in the woods and have done this long enough you kinda have a sense as to where these things will be.

We haven't found an archived cache, but we did find a cache on a log next to a trail that was .1 miles from where it was supposed to be hidden. We were headed in that direction so we took it back and rehid it after signing the log.

I found one just last week...about 10 ft. away from a new placement. I had found the archived one several years ago and, just as an afterthought, checked to see if the container was still there...it was...and I removed it so it didn't get confused with the new one...then notified the owner. I have found at least a dozen caches that were never published. They were all near existing hides and that probably blocked them from getting published. Probably the same amount of letter boxes by chance too. A handful of archived hides found when looking for places to hide a cache. What LB7 said is true. If you do this long enough you are drawn to natural hiding spots. We check holes in trees and hollow logs when ever we hike. Who knows, you may find a real treasure someday.

Have found a few but unless we are on a rescue mission we leave them be.

We did find an unpublished cache in a spot we were looking to put a cache. So we signed the log and notified the CO! Turns out they had placed a cache and forgotten to publish it. So they removed it.

Found one a couple of years ago while out finishing up a multi. Found a container, went home, saw the cache had been arhived a long time ago an next time I was in the area I picked up the matchstick container which was redeployed in another cache.

I rescued that childhood memories. I can't believe I missed that cache two years ago.

I have found 5 that had been archived. The oldest had been for 2 1/2 years. None of them had ever made the cache rescue list. The funniest was one that hadn't been archived but there were two containers at the site. A replacement and the old one. It was kind of funny in that the previous finder had found one container and I found the second one and it didn't match up. A third cacher came along and verified there were two after he found both thereby vindicating both of us.

unfortunately, most archived caches will never see the rescue list. The Cache Rescues are most often submitted by our reviewer Team Deejay as he archives those caches that get no attention within 30-60 days of his sending a disabled/needs attention notification.

Many other caches get archived and never picked up by the owner.
