To all who love paddling, geocaching, and enjoying public lands:
The Bureau of Land Management manages over 500 islands scattered among more than 10 of Wisconsin's big rivers. Some of these islands are just big enough to hide a cache. Many of the islands are big enough to camp on, and a few of the islands are over 100 acres!
We would like to set up caches on some of these islands, but first we need to find out whether there are already caches out there. If you can help us find out whether our islands already have caches, if you would like to set up a cache on the BLM islands near you, or if you just want more information about the islands, please contact me via this forum. |

Do you have coordinates for the islands you'd like to use? |

I have coordinate of all the islands, but I am interested first in finding out whether there are caches already established on these islands. If you can help me determine whether there are existing caches, then I'll forward you the locations of islands on the rivers that are of interest to you. |

There are very few out there...but as an active kayaker I'd be interested in all existing and new placements. |

My suggestion would be to contact a WI reviewer directly through Groundspeak or to go ahead and place the caches and the reviewers will let you know if there are other caches too close for yours to remain...but like I said, there are very few caches on islands today so I would imagine you will not have much of a problem...if you need help in the Waukesha / Jefferson county area actually placing them let me know... |

Your first step is to create an account for yourself (or the agency) on geocaching.com. Once you do this, you can see maps of the areas where all geocaches are located, and, more importantly, where they are not located. Once in a while, you might run into a puzzle cache final on an island, but that is pretty rare. Note that if you tell the folks at the website that you are a land manager and need to keep track of your properties, they will give you a premium account free of charge. They have already provided premium memberships to the DNR and several county parks departments. |

This has my interest so I've reached out to Derek for more information via an email directly to him. Hopefully more to come and maybe a win-win scenario. |
