GC3AD2N Chapel in the Woods

Gram & Gramps, along with Chucky, places a fantastic multi-cache on the grounds of the Red Mill in Little Hope, a small community just outside Waupaca. This is a true hidden gem spot even though it has been featured in over 70 magazines and calendars as well as jigsaw puzzles.
I will post below my log from 4/21/12 below. when you go, be certain to be aware of the hours and give yourselves enough time to both walk the grounds and tour the inside of the mill. Don will be happy to show you around.

I found my self nearby and with time enough to go for this one today. I have driven past the Red Mill numerous times throughout the years and never knew what lay beyond the building until today.
After taking my first step through the doorway to the stairs, I found myself transported to bygone years with some really fantastic old advertisments for all kinds of things, Informational signs and just cute stuff. As I meandered down the steps, the view of the chapel across the river widened as did my eyes in order to take in all that beauty. The paths through the grounds take you easily past many different garden areas as well as the graves of the past "Red Mill Cats" whom all lived long feline lives. The Chapel is a very nice stop-over which was not in use today but was open to peer inside. The paths leading through the prayer pathway was beautiful as it roams around the banks of the river. This is such a peaceful location, I could certainly see a return visit just to commune with God and His creation.
Walking across the river via the covered bridge was another treat. Oh, yeah, was supposed to say something about the cache here too... Well, I would have found the first waypoint much quicker had I reviewed Bigjim60's log but finally took the shot which paid off greatly. Plugged in the coordinates for the final and made my way over to take a look. Perfect spot for the final. I spotted the geocoin and grabbed it to move on with a promise to return to drop off another traveler in the near future. Replaced the container and made my way back to the steps with a final glance back toward the river for the memory.
Remembering that the CO asked that we stop in at the mill and thank Don for allowing the cache here, I did just that and was amazed at the interior of the Mill. I chatted with Don for about half an hour as he talked about the history of the mill and showed me around the building. I know that the CO stated that the cache not be searched for "off hours" and now cannot see why anyone would want to find the cache without taking the time to enjoy the river side of the mill and without going inside to view the history and all the fantastic stuff Don and his parents have collected over the years.

For those who do not know, the Red Mill has been featured in over 70 magazines and calendars, as well as several jigsaw puzzles. Truly a Gem to behold. I will remember this visit and I will come back. This one get a Favorite point and if I could give more than one, I would.

We have been to the Red Mill several times over the years when visiting the "summer home". We have been inside the mill as well as out. One time when we were there, the chapel was set up for a wedding later that day. The covered bridge is fun, too. We were there last weekend to try the cache, but we had only 15 minutes left to make finds on both parts, and when we checked out what we needed to do, it was going to take a bit more time for us than we had, so we just took some photos and headed out. We'll make that our first stop instead of our last the next time we're over that way.

A Gram&Gramps cache (along with a Chucky cache) is worth finding and worth taking the time to savor.

Oh, yeah... We have one of those jigsaw puzzles!

We have seen weddings there too. One time it was raining real hard and the water was rushing down that narrow stairway between the buildings so hard that it would have swept you down the stairs. We'll be sure to check out this cache when we're camping at HC at the end of June. We always try to do a few Grams and Gramps caches when we're in the area.

Thanks Pete! We will be showing up there for Opening Trout fishing. It is a tradition as it has been for about 18 years now. The kids and hubby fish, I do the caching. I am looking forward to this one!

Thank you very much for the kind (and unsolicited...) comments. We do try to put out memorable caches. and certainly appreciate it when others like them.
