“The Year of the Niagara
Barth Hall, Mequon, WI
The 30th annual Natural Landscapes Conference is built
around theWisconsin Legislature’s declaration of 2010 as
the “Year of the Niagara Escarpment,” recognizing this
unique geological resource that runs 230 miles from the
eastern edge of Horicon Marsh to the tip of Door County.
Keynote speaker Roger Kunz will explore the escarpment
on a journey back into time to examine its many amazing
natural history aspects -- including the geology, geography,
climate, ecosystems, water, caves, botany and fossils of the
Kunz , a geologist, hydrologist and ecologist, will discuss
the unique nature of what wind, water and ice can sculpt
in nature and how this remarkable landscape feature
impacts lives inWisconsin.
The conference will focus on matters ranging from native
plants associated with escarpment habitats to learning
about the cultural heritage of the Niagara Escarpment, to
a new statewide initiative,“Bird CityWisconsin.”
Wish I could go, but that's going to be a bad weekend for us. Thought I'd share it if anyone else is interested.

That is a huge feature in the Midwest and accounts for most of the interesting geology on Wisconsin's Eastern half (as well as being responsible for Niagara Falls).
Also, the escarpment runs further south than the Horicon Marsh down past Ledge Park ( GC1Z2ZN ) and further yet past the Southern Kettle Moraine ....See Brady's Rock ( GC150BF ).
