This sticky forum topic is provided for WGA members to share their recommendations regarding good places to eat in this region.
When you make a recommendation, please provide as much information as you can. At a minimum we need the name of the restaurant, type of food served, and the city/town where it is located. We are all geocachers, so the coordinates of the establishment would also be helpful.
If there is a need to edit or delete your recommendation at a future date, just post a note in this topic and one of our forum admins will take care of making the change.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations! |

Polecat & Lace - Downtown Minocqua
My brother used to tend bar here, but it has ALWAYS been one of my favorites. Known for their sandwiches but also more filling fare. Non-smoking. I recommend the Ultimate and some cheese curds.

Pea Patch - Downtown Manitowish Waters "Best Burger by a Dam Site" Grab a burger, say hi to Barry and Lisa.

Little Bohemia - Manitowish Waters - Old school leaning towards upscale dining, rich in MW and Mobster History. John Dillinger had a shoot out here, bullet holes in walls and glass preserved along with many of the items left behind. Rumored to be 200k in cash buried somewhere nearby. Ask for permission before begging your search :> Sorry, don't have coords.

While out today doing some of the GNTH caches, we stopped at the Ice Shack.
Its in Boulder Junction, just off the main drag to the north, Both Val and I agreed these were the best burgers we have had in years, and for those of you from NE Wisconsin, they were better than MickeyLu's in Marinette and Krolls East in Green Bay. |

Not to correct you, but did you mean the Ice Shanty? Complete with mini-golf course? That's my step-brother's favorite place for ANYTHING! |

A great place for a relaxing dinner if you are around Winter Wisconsin or Phillips Wisconsin is the Big Bear Lodge (W1614 County Rd W).
http://www.bigbearlodgeww.com/
They have the BEST liver dumpling soup ever. Of course they have a nice Friday Buffet. Not many places offer spetzle (German dumpling) as a side choice but they do here. The roast duck there is FANTASTIC as well.
But if you like to have an ice cream drink for after dinner ya better save room for 1 of theirs. It can easily serve 3 people.......or more if you are all stuffed.
I have been going to this place almost twice a year since I was about 8 years old ( I am close to 49 now).
The scenery is awesome if you chose to dine on the room overlooking the Flambeau.....watching canoes go by. |

Mondeaux Dam Lodge - Westboro, WI
http://mondeauxdamlodge.com/
I would recommend camping out at one of the many campgrounds around the flowage, finding all the caches in the area, and eating here. There is a nice beach and playground nextdoor to the restaurant if you have kids. You can rent boats at the lodge, too.
As for the food, their burgers, fries, cheese curds, soft-serve ice cream, and pizza are really good. Also, there is a buffet on Friday nights. |

Boy this is a site I'm going to watch! I'm always looking for a great place to stop in and try when I'm up north at the cottage.
My sister and I did find a good one this summer with some of the best walleye I've ever had at a restaurant. I'm sorry I can't remember the name, but it's right on the corner of the highway intersection of HWY 182 and HWY 51, just out of Manitowish. If you turn off 51 south to soon onto 182, you'll drive on to their lawn...
(Not to be a snob, but I live on an island and can get "fresh" fish if I go down to the dock when the fish tugs are in. So I look for the best tasting!) |

Just went on-line to find the name. It has one review from 2008, and they thought it stunk...
