We had a very interesting meeting with the Brown County Parks committee tonight, with Geopink, k0rpl, and my self in attendance. Geopink gave a very good presentation about geocaching and the role WGA plays in the state, and k0rpl and I testified about personal experiences with geocaching in the area. The end result after much talking, is that there will be no $5 fee per cache in Brown county parks!! We agreed that we would notify the parks using forms similar to the ones that the DNR requires. I was impressed that the committee gave us most of an hour to discuss caching with them, and I think that by the end of the discussion, they realized that the county could actually benefit by encouraging caching in Brown County Parks. All in all, a very positive meeting. A big thanks to Geopink for his very good presentation to the committee. Thanks Jeff. After the meeting, k0rpl and I continued the discussion over a few cold ones on my front porch. Life is good!

Good job you guys. Keeping the man from taxing and regulating is a good thing and not allowing a terrible precedence in the area is a big plus.

Cold ones on the front porch does sound like a great cool-down right about now.....

Thanks guys. Great work.

my personal boycott of Brown County is hearby lifted. Boycott of Dane County remains in force, since they charge 10 bucks a cache.

I also want to extend thanks and Congrats to Geopink, and Frizz for their presentations tonight. I think we really did some good. I do however think that the horse was dead ten minutes into it, and it kept getting beat for the next hour, but Oh well. Such is government!!!!!!!

Cold ones were also great. Thanks Frizz, and Mrs. Frizz. How will I repay ya??? I think I got an Idea!!!!

We'll have to see....

Thank you to Larry and Justin for backing me up. Things went rather well considering; and I, too, am rather impressed that they spent over an hour talking about geocaching!

Just a little reminder though that this was only a committee meeting and their recommendation will need to be voted on by the full Brown County Board on Wed. June 20. I will be in attendance at that meeting as well to answer any questions that may arise, but as I've been told, this may very well be a formality (Though the one supervisor might decide to raise a stink about ammo boxes and bomb squads again...).

I think much of the "work" for this endeavor was completed in previous years when the WGA began its successful relationship with the DNR. One of the goals of that endeavor was to set it up as an example for the rest of the state and the fact that the DNR was OK with geocaching and notifications went a long way towards getting this fee rescinded.

There are still some items of business that we, the geocachers in NE WI will need to take care of for Brown County, but I think we are well on our way to a great working relationship.

We are glad to hear of the positive outcome from the meeting on Thursday. Would like to have been there but we had a previous commitment and could not make it. Now hopefully the full board will agree and we can put this one behind us.

Just a Note:

I just spoke with Supervisor Krueger, Vice-Chair of the Brown county Board of Supervisors. He indicated that he did not think the Ed&Rec Cmte Geocaching items would be on the agenda for this evening. So if you are planning on attending, don't. He was certain that we would be on the July meeting agenda. As a safeguard, he indicated that if it did come up and he was giving me the wrong information, he would ask that the issue be tabled to accommodate our being able to speak to the board prior to a vote.

I'll post more information when I have it.

So what ever came out of all of this?
I would like to place an Earthcache in Brown county...possibly more than one.
