A blessing in disguise... This would normally have been the weekend for the WGA campout, but because the group camp sites were unavailable, the campout was held last weekend instead. And you thought last Friday night was cold!!! Shocked Frost on the tents tonight!

But it was a great weekend for the campout, and many of you attended all or part of the weekend's happenings at Mirror Lake SP. While I know photos and memories have been shared on Facebook and other social media sites, the event WAS the WGA campout, so share some of your memories here.

Two of mine: the lack of fish caught in the fishing derby, and the lovely double rainbow viewed from the shelter late Saturday afternoon.

Normally after a day of caching we go to Culver's. Last Saturday night we went to Ishnala Supper Club and had a $75 dinner. Great company was with us. Uncle Fun, geocaching widow and Hack 1of 2. Just one of the memories of a very social event in a great park.

It was nice to meet cachers on the trail; that doesn't happen much for me outside of events. I was able to put faces to familiar names and also meet cachers who were not familiar at all to me. A scary memory for me, well, scary is a bit of a stretch...I was caching alone and went to find a cache that was significantly off trail in a wooded area. While I was never actually lost, getting back to the trail after finding the cache was an uncomfortable experience. Confused Footprints in the snow would have helped. I guess I was a couple weeks late for that. Rolling Eyes

I had many great memories of the weekend. I found 4 caches- 1 in Portage, the event and then the 2 near the shelter.

The night caches were fun and entertaining, the people were many and amazing, the WGA member kicked in to put on GSAK presetnations, scoop ice cream, help set up and clean up (the BOD really likes the help with these things), pancakes and sausage were great. No rain (at night) the rainbow was pretty cool, the fishin' derby was a tie at 0 caught, the kids crafts and candy went over well.

It was fun to watch the photo scavenger hunt finish up and to talk to everyone as they tried to open the treasure box.

While the derby was a bust with no fish caught, returning to the fishing pier after the group picture did allow me to prove there are fish there as I managed 3 bluegill. Doctor Doolittle also caught some crappies out in the kayak.

oh, and I may have made contact with some of that evil three-leaved weed. not bad but annoying enough.

When we look back at this WGA campout, here are some of the things that stand out that will be remembered for a long time

- Kayaking to find geolivestrong's new cache on the water (and borrowing Dr. Dolittle's kayaks - thanks Dr. D)
- Participating in the CITO and pulling out lots of garlic mustard (for the first time)
- Dinner Saturday night at Ishnala supper club within the park with Uncle Fun, Geocaching Widow, Mr. Greenthumb, and Sunshine and getting really silly afterward. It was an $85 dinner but worth it!
- Participating in our first Dutch oven cookout
- It was the only camping experience we've ever done where we forgot to pack our sleeping bags! Embarassed Good thing we had out air mattresses and blankets!

I agree, the weather was awesome last weekend!

I really had a fun time doing the kids activities. It got a little crazy there for a little bit and there was one kid with a finished raft that never came back to collect it but it was really fun. Then later some of those kids came up to me and talked to me, which I enjoyed.

I also found it really funny how I kept seeing the same kids going and sneaking back over to the Kids Candy Cache over and over again. I may have to put it in less at a time in the future! Wink

I loved watching my sons playing as boys are supposed to play before all of the technology became so mainstream. They were playing in the dirt with sticks and other kids and got filthy. They climbed trees, splashed in the lake, played with the dog, ran around in the woods. It was fabulous!

I only hung around the fire the first night because I was so sleepy the second night. I guess I'm getting old. But the first night was really fun!

It was exciting to hear Chris announce the State Parks program after spending so much time thinking and planning it over the last year and a half.

I also enjoyed speaking briefly with nearly everyone who came to the pancake breakfast. We have some excellent people in the WGA!

And the night cache contest was way cool! I love how that's something that my kids get really excited about. It was fun walking around with AuntieNae and watching the kids discover the stuff in the woods.

Thanks again to all who helped out. Great thread Sandlanders!
