What about just searching by the distance attribute?

thought that would work too but when I ran a PQ with all the distance attributes, I got 0 caches returned.
maybe I did something wrong but I would have thought that someone used the distance attributes for something.

Distance attributes are fairly "new school" which means they may not be included on many caches (unless the CO was very proactive and updated them).

Here's an interesting thought though - I wonder if GSAK could be used to generate a list of all caches with Parking Coords and a distance > x from the parking to the posted location? Pretty sure it's possible, but my GSAK database doesn't contain all the caches in WI.

I looked through my caches and surprisingly I have 4 of a mile or more...(but all are under 2 miles).

Long Hikes: That would be a fun bookmark list to whittle away at.

We did one of those old school caches today..."Northwest Passage," in the far northwestern corner of Wisconsin. Rated a T3.5, more like a 4.5 We hiked in on a fire road that serves Jay Cooke State Park, hiked a good .8 in, then had to walk along the St. Louis River before going up....straight up! No one else around, Bald Eagles calling overhead and some pretty tough hiking up and down and up and down a steep ridgeline to the cache. Though we cussed our way as we slipped on the leaves going straight up, it was a great old school cache.

It's been in play just over eight years. 27 finds. Amazing journey.

Gromme Nature walk and Rush Lake View are a couple more worthwhile hikes

I think I looked for Rush Lake View once and had a big fat DNF. But it was a really nice hike.

I recently did GC1X3JH, Newport State Park (Verney Point). It was a 2.5 mile loop that was along trails till the last few hundred feet. The first segment of the trail is along the Poetry Trail. The displays change regularly and Estella Lauter of Door County is currently featured. The next segment goes through a nicely wooded area to rural campsite 9 and then to the point were the cache is. You could easily make this a longer hike along the many trails in the area. Not really "old school", but enjoyable.

Dave, Will that one be findable in winter? We often go up that way right after Christmas. We had a memorable hike in that park one of those times, and this sounds like a great one.

If there is not too much snow and ice it can be found in the winter. It is an ammo box so that will help, but it is a ground hide.
