Don't know of a Wisconsin State Park Challenge, but there are two challenges that I am aware of that involve Wisconsin public lands:

GC3BRE4 "Wisconsin Playlands" by Trekkin' and Birdin' near Bangor
GC3WMX0 "WI Public Land" by geolivestrong near Wautoma

It would be nice to see the Wisconsin DNR get on board with this. The state parks that have many geocaches in them have seen increases in their numbers of visitors.

If the state doesn't want to get involved, maybe the WGA can organize an effort to get geocaches in every park, even if they are put out and maintained by individual cachers. The WGA can set some kind of standards, and the costs can be covered either by the WGA or the cache hiders. The WGA can "own" the challenge.

Well HI dmnrec!!

We are in the planning stages and are working towards a standard and placements.

Good ideas and thanks for the sharing of ideas. I did PM dmnrec this morning with just a quick note to make contact.

Look for a list of State Parks and their Trailbosses in the near future.

We may not get to move as quickly as everyone would like but we are working on this and hope to see some physical results in the near future.

Even if we (WGA) place the caches and organize a challenge, I see that we still need the DNR to help get the word out. I know that there are also local tourism directors that put out publications and we should try to get them to include the information. I know that Green County would be on-board with supporting this. I might even be able to get someone else to place the caches in New Glarus so that I would have some to go find. Smile

Everyone else- any input you have will be helpful.

Chris and Becca,

I hope you got the email that I sent. I am willing to help out in any way that I can, as I think this is a very worthwhile project still.

Ralph- we did get it and I am right now reviewing and updating it a little and formulating an outline to move forward. You did a lot of great work on this.

Just starting to see if this program is still active in other states. Nothing like peer pressure to help get WI on board.

I got it as well and passed it on to WA. I just haven't had the chance to read through it yet.

Thanks Zuma for all the work that you have put into it and for offering to help out with it. We'll keep chipping away at this project until it's ready for launch.

The State of Arkansas has a very nice state park series. We did a few when we visited down there a couple of years ago. The parks personel were all well versed and helpful. Some (perhaps all?) started at the Ranger station and branched out from there. Further info can be seen at this cache listing:

It would be wonderful if Wisconsin could get on board and do something similar. Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront!

We also were extremely impressed when we stopped at one of the Arkansas State Parks. The Park Staff served as extremely knowledgeable ambassadors of their program, leading to a remarkable 30 minute chat, a hat on our heads, and a commitment to return and visit more of their parks. GC1DR2G

I'm still plugging away on the WI Playlands challenge. My goal is to finish by the end of the summer.

That's great! Feel free to PM Walking Adventure or myself (or any BOD really) about this project, what you know, what you'd like to do, etc. Thanks! Which park do you work at?

I'm the new Park Ranger/Assistant Park Manager for Amnicon Falls and I'll be helping out at Pattison, or might get stuck running that one too depending on how fast positions get filled/vacated...though right now I'm in the middle of attending a Law Enforcement academy at Ft. McCoy as part of the position. There are also 4 other new PR/AP here at the academy recently hired for different parks, so I'll already have connections when/if it gets to the point of setting up a state-wide challenge.

We are talking over contact people at the DNR. After we get talking with them, then the fun gets to start. We'll definitely look forward to your help!

It's great to see this is coming together. The WI State Park system is a real asset to our state, and this looks like another good way to get people out and exploring all the things the state parks have to offer.

I have a number of caches placed in Willow River SP and Kinnickinnic SP, with a few more coming soon for Interstate SP (in prep for the combined MN/WI Campout). I've had some very nice comments from geocachers from MN and WI saying how much they enjoyed visiting these parks, and that the geocaches were a nice way to help them explore the area.
