As with many organizations, people have different ideas on what should or needs to be done and there are those who have different agendas.
While the WGA BOD does tend to agree on most items up for discussion, there are times when an idea may not find favor in everyone's eyes.
If YOU had and idea that you felt strongly about, how hard would you champion your idea to get the other directors to see the advantage, or if you felt strongly against another BOD member's motion or idea, would you debate against it, or vote against it even if the motion is bound to pass?
Are you able to accept that not every idea needs to be persued and that you still have to play nice with the other BODs? |

In the name of politics, controversy will always be around. That's a given. However, it's how you react to the controversy that will make you or break you. If I had a good idea that I personally felt that it would better the way we do things, then yes, I would champion the idea to hopefully convince enough people to vote for the idea. Likewise, if an idea comes across that I would personally see as unethical, then again yes, I would stand up against that idea.
It all boils down that one has to stand up for what he or she thinks is right. Not simply being a puppet because it is easier to do than to be a man and stand up for what you believe in.
Yes, if voted, I will play nice with the other BOD's, but again, if an issue comes around that I feel strong about, then I would exercise the right to strongly object or agree on the issue. |

In truth, I'm not always comfortable with controversy. I tend to be a peacemaker. I do have ideas of my own that I'll happily put forward if the time would arise but I also am happy to compromise or help others come to an agreement. |

I'm not afraid to stand up for something I personally believe can make a difference. Criticism I can handle, I have thick skin. Does that mean i'll drop the topic just because others don't agree? Not always. I will pursue it in a professional manner trying to branch out to others. Just like if someone were to purpose something I at first didnt agree with, I would not shut the thought out. Seeing as everyone on the board are adults, I'm sure we could come to a resolution on all topics being addressed responsibly and respectfully. |

If it's something I feel strongly about, I will debate and vote my conscience. If it doesn't go my way, that's the way the vote fell. Just because a vote doesn't go the way I want, doesn't mean that the situation is closed. We can always come back to it. I do promise not to say "I told you so" if it turns out my idea would have worked better. |

I'll try and keep this short for a change.
I wouldn't think of it as Controversy as much as understanding everyone has their own passions (agendas) and want to see them sitting at the top of the Must Do list.
That can't happen for everyone, some things just can't make the list or might just be bad ideas.
I have no problem voting my conscience and trying to move my ideas forward but I am completely against bullying others and beating my feelings over their heads.
When I get into a conversation I like to try and keep in mind Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Think Win-Win and Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. They're all part of the 7 Habits and have worked well for me. Working with a group can be tough but it's also pretty cool when we call come together. |
