In the mail I just received the premier copy of a new magazine...Our Wisconsin www.ourwisconsinmag.com It's a nice mag with articles on Wisconsin, present and past, great pictures, reminiscence, etc.
The reason I am bringing this here...the magazine has a "Wisconsin Treasure Hunt" that I'm sure will appeal to geocachers. They have hidden the ignition key to a new red KIA Soul in one of Wisconsin's State Parks.
Finding it is not limited to paid subscribers.
The key is placed in a small, clear biodegradable bag with a note stating "You Found It!" and instructions on whom to call with a secret code number.
They are also promoting their version of CITO, asking readers to take along a garbage bag as they search.
It isn't going to be easy to find, but each month they will eliminate 10 counties to narrow down the search. They do not mind that I am discussing this here, as they note that "when launching a new magazine, getting folks to talk about it is, well, golden".
So....while out searching for a cache, look for the key to a new cache mobile. Good Luck!!

Thanks we just subscribed too. Charter subscribers get a special reduced rate. One year @9.98 sounds pretty good to me! Since they welcome stories from subscribers, I look forward to seeing Beccaday's next article (but she has to write one for them first, since she's already been published in FTF magazine).

It looks like they're in Presque Isle, but the outsource subscription processing to some outfit in Iowa. Not unusual especially for a startup.
I'm surprised to see a print magazine start, however. Starting a print magazine is exceedingly difficult in today's market. Even without paying writers, which seems to be the case with this mag (which tells you what kind of content quality you may be looking at), the economics of print media are very tough. |

I received this email from another WGA member last night after I passed on the above information:
"I’m familiar with the magazine but I haven’t seen a printed issue yet. It’s published by Roy Reiman and company, the same staff that does Our Iowa, which I have subscribed to for several years. Our Iowa also does a hidden key contest every year. The first year they did it, it was found by a couple of Iowa geocachers, so you are on to something there. "
Keep your eyes open while out caching, and someone may get lucky. Took the car keys, Left a McD toy. TFTC (Thanks for the CAR) |

As I recall, the key was taped to the bottom of a picnic table for the Iowa hunt.
Watch for upside-down picnic tables, coming to a park near you...SOON! |

I was interviewed and photographed for an article for publication in this magazine last month. The article deals with my store, not geocaching. I'm looking forward to seeing the publication. |
