Pat Shurmer, Chan Gailey, Lovie Smith, Ken Whisenhunt, Norv Turner, Romeo Crenell, and Andy Reid were all fired today. The only one that has me a bit puzzled is Lovie Smith. It will be difficult for the Bears to get someone better. I think that the players and GM there are more to blame than the coach.
The zoo was fun. Polar bears and timber wolves like the cold.....go figure. It was sad to see Mahal missing (for you non-Milwaukee types: Mahal was a 5-year-old orangutan sent to the zoo a few years back. He was found dead this past weekend. The kids were pretty torn up about it.). The jaguar cubs were fun to watch even if it was only via closed-circuit television.
Off to prepare for our New Year's Celebration. We are going to have some boomers that were purchased for the 4th of July celebration. The dryness of the summer had us put them away until tonight. |

Well, yeah. But general confusion seems to be a common trait in Thread Stealers. I get confused every time I come here. |

My kids got to witness the rudest and most demanding customers ever while having a late lunch at Olive Garden today. We did our best to debrief after leaving to educate them about how not to be.
The mid 50's couple (appeared to be non-married) was seated in the booth directly across the aisle from us. I'll admit the waitress made a mistake early on by setting down the iced tea glass by palming the top of the glass which I was always taught was a no-no during my days as a server (i.e. always grab the glass by the side). From there it went downhill.
1) The guy asked the waitress if she was sick recently (personally I thought this was none of his business). She confirmed she had a few days prior to which he responded, "I want a different waitress because I'm important and can't risk having someone make me sick. I have important business to conduct in the next few days." Interesting. Then why would you go out in public if you're that concerned.
2) He then proceeded to inspect underneath the table. He did this by placing his hands on the bench (Really? I'm sure there's no germs there that could get on your hands and make you ill). He made a bee line for the front desk and brought the hostess to the table to point out a cleanliness concern he had about some crumbs on the floor. The hostess grabbed the quick broom sweeper and cleaned it up immediately and apologized.
3) Guy then goes to the restroom and then complains to the hostess that there was water on the sink in the bathroom. Really?
4) Guy realizes he lost his cell phone and has the hostess rally the troops to look for it. Literally. He demanded that all available waitstaff look for it because it's his work phone and has lots of critical information on it.
5) The lady then complains that they still need a waitress. The hostess tells her they limit there waitstaff to 3 tables each and offers them another booth in the next section over. They decline because they've already been seated and state "I don't understand why we should move to accomodate your waitresses."
6) The guy then left to go look for the cell phone. He returns 15 minutes later and informs his wife he found it at Hobby Lobby, but yet doesn't bother to tell the hostess that he found it. She asked when she saw it on the table and he just said, "I found it in the restroom." I wanted to call him a liar on the spot, but decided not to get into it while we were eating.
7) He then orders an unsweetened iced tea and when it arrived he added 4 packets of sugar complaining to the waitress they don't know how to make decent sweet tea so he has to blend his own.
At this point the chef pays them a visit to let them know she will be taking care of them in place of the waitstaff. Obviously word is out at this point that they can't be pleased no matter what the waitstaff does.
9) They order salad and tell the chef they'll order the entree later so they have plenty of time to enjoy the salad. They ask for dressing on side (not on the salad) because the salad always has too much on it. The salad arrives as requested and the chef asks if they'd like freshly grated cheese. The guy asks what kind of cheese and the chef responds romano. The guys says he'd prefer freshly grated parmesan, so the chef goes back to the kitchen and brings them a big bowl of freshly grated parmesan. The lady then says she'd like extra dressing because they don't have enough for the salad (see above but they don't like a lot of dressing). Extra dressing arrives via the chef at which point the lady asks for 2 extra sliced tomatoes (2 full tomatoes not 2 slices). When we left the tomatoes were still untouched even though they were done with the salad.
10) The lady then complained to the chef that her hot tea hot gotten cold while she waited for her husband to find his phone. The chef offered to bring more hot water and tea, but the lady said she'd have iced tea. Iced tea arrives and she tells the chef she asked for raspberry tea. The chef apologizes, but yet everyone at our table heard the same thing - Iced Tea.
11) The chef then asked if they were ready to order their entree and they said they'd like to wait 15 minutes so they could enjoy their beverages.
This is the point we were done and left. I really felt bad for the staff because no matter what they did it wasn't good enough, quick enough, or something else was wrong. Had I been the chef I would have probably ensured they never returned. I would have ensured that the next glass of iced tea was served via a tray and would have happened to dump the whole thing in the guys lap (one of those waitstaff secrets to deal with grumpy customers).
Having worked at the local country club back in high school, I knew what jerks people could be. Once outside we debriefed with the kids who were full of questions about what was up and what was going on. Fortuantely our kids recognized how rude the people were being and that the behavior was unacceptable (at least by our standards). |

CJ, we can't control the actions of others, only those of ourselves. Jerks will be jerks no matter what. Your family got to see some big-time important JERKS in action... and one restrained dad.
I wonder how that all ended, but it sounds like the staff should be commended for how they acted while you were there. After you left, maybe the s*** hit the fan, and the jerks were told never to darken the doorstep of any Olive Garden again.
Jerks. |

BTW, nice narration, worthy of being a log for one of your cache finds. Any skirt lifters there in the parking lot? |
