Here's one....as we keep on with the never ending clutter reduction, we have unearthed a bunch of pre-recorded VHS tapes. If something like this were to be found in a cache (assuming there are any decent sized caches in which to place them) and it were a title you'd enjoy watching....would it be a good trade item?
I tried to create a poll but that doesn't seem to be working for me. |

The tapes would need to be well protected. Not sure how they would hold up to damp and cold. Otherwise, a decent swag item. Not sure if we would have stuff along to "trade up or even", though.
And who still has VHS players (besides us)? |

I think so, there are sitll some people that have VCR's. Ours died years ago and I didn't want to replace it so I gave mine all away. I've started weeding through my DVD's that the kids have outgrown and have used them as swag before. |

The hippies still have a VCR so I might consider swapping out. |

We still have a VCR and use it for the kids movies you can find at garage sales for a quarter. We have a lot of kids videos that we could swap out so someone else could enjoy them. |

We still have the requisite technology, but ...
* Perhaps donate them to the local library if they would take them (i.e. I'm thinking tax deduction with this one)
* Perhaps donate them to a local school. (another tax deduction)
* Maybe a give-away at a caching event
Just some thoughts if you didn't want to use them as SWAG in the traditional sense. |

There is a cache in Bonduel by Lander and Lancelot(GC140QB) along these lines that I always liked until it got moved which made it a little more out of the way. This one doesn't accept recorded movies but you might send them a PM to pick their brain on the idea.
Personally, I like the idea, I'm always looking for something to watch on the VCR up north at the cottage. Sometimes you just don't feel like reading a book. If you place it up north, I would love to visit it and check it out. Could possibly help with recycling a lot of my old recorded movies |

Thanks for the responses. We did that Little Free Library in Prairie too, as we have plans to create one of our own as a winter building project. Maybe that would be a good place for a few of these, rather than somewhere where the risk of damage is not so easy to monitor. Since "Trash Talk" was taken out by an auto accident, we could list the library as a cache, too. I was just curious how many even use this format anymore. |

I would think that it could be a good idea with a cache that would get plenty of traffic. As for protecting them, I would think that a good baggie with one of those little packets that we all throw away when we get stuff. You know, those ones that keep stuff dry. |

We've given lots of VHS movies away as swag in caches. We put them in a baggie for protection from the elements. There's plenty of people who still have VCRs, although we haven't used ours in a long time.
On a related note we also put DVD movies that we no longer want in caches. The best DVD we ever found in a cache was Pirates of the Caribbean. |
